Hurricane Rooms

These types of safe rooms are popular in places that are most frequented by hurricanes and tornadoes, just like the name suggests. They are mostly built in the middle of the house. Their main purpose is to secure house occupants from extreme weather conditions. They are characterized by fortified masonry and steel. While they are meant to secure occupants from extreme weather conditions, they do not have exclusive power, communication systems, and air purification facilities. Occupants are, however, advised to equip the facilities with items such as food and medical paraphernalia.

Panic Rooms

Compared to Hurricane rooms, panic rooms are fancier. They are built for purposes of keeping occupants happy for several days or weeks. In most cases, they are constructed by rich people in the society. Unlike the safe hurricane rooms, they are built with considerations of standalone power, air purifiers, communication systems, and security monitors. They are to protect occupants against being held hostage and are virtually impervious. These rooms are usually expensive to build, particularly because they constitute high-tech in their construction.

Ordinary Safe rooms

Unlike the hurricane and panic rooms that need to be planned during construction, ordinary saferooms can be introduced in one’s house once the house has been completed. They are not complicated to construct, but they are very secure. In some cases, these saferooms double up as bathrooms or closets. The ordinary safe rooms are mostly used to protect householders from dangers emanating from events such as burglary. In fact, they are becoming very popular as the number of home break-ins continues to increase.

The main reason for having a safe room inside another room is that occupants are usually shielded from danger twice, exclusively by each room. It is worth noting that safe rooms should not be easily identifiable.

Since the idea behind safe rooms is to hide people, one needs to identify locations with no traditional door, behind movable furniture, inside a guest room, or they can appear as a closet safe room. In case one chooses to skip inconspicuousness imbued with a safe room insofar as doors are concerned, they should consider reinforcing its doors. It is imperative to note that most doors in the house’s interior are usually weak and may therefore not qualify for use in safe room construction. While doors are sufficient to provide security in safe rooms, it is important to note that their keys might be misplaced or lost. In that regard, high-tech interventions such as fingerprint authentication and keypads. Either way, one should find a way of keeping themselves safe in their houses.
