The IBPS Clerk Mains Syllabus—All You Need to Know

Acquiring an IBPS clerk position through the mains exam could be challenging for many. According to the latest guidelines, the mains exam is divided into 4 sections. And as a candidate, you need to attempt all 4, which are:

  1. General or Financial Awareness that contains 50 questions of 50 marks. And the time span is 35 minutes.
  2. General English comprises 40 questions of 40 marks. Time duration is 35 minutes.
  3. Computer Knowledge and Reasoning Ability having 50 questions for 60 marks. And you would receive 45 minutes to solve all.
  4. Quantitative Aptitude that would be containing 50 questions for 50 marks. Time limit is again 45 minutes.

The total of 190 questions will be objective type, requiring high accuracy, and the difficulty level is moderate to hard. It is important to stay cautious of the negative marking—0.25 per each wrong answer.

Topics Covered in General or Financial Awareness

Your GK must encompass Indian Constitution, Indian culture, country, currency, geography, history, and railways & airports.

For the Financial part, do study important terminologies, Indian banking, regulatory bodies, RBI functions, bank headquarters, Indian financial system, fiscal & monetary policy, and international organisations, like WB, SWIFT, BBB, etc. Also, stay updated with national and international current affairs.

Topics Covered in General English

Vocabulary and comprehensions are essential to ace this section. Also, synonym & antonym, fill in the blanks, para jumbles, sentence completion, phrase replacement, error detection, cloze test, inference, and connectors are some other topics that are tested.

Topics Covered in Computer Knowledge and Reasoning Ability

Some topics that are assessed in this section include Syllogism, blood relations, alphanumeric series, verbal reasoning, distance and direction, seating arrangements, figure series, coding-decoding, inequalities, order and ranking, input-output, etc.

In puzzles, you have a box-based puzzle, day-based puzzle, month-based puzzle, row-based puzzle, etc.

Moreover, for basic computer knowledge, you need to be aware of the basics of hardware & software, keyboard shortcuts, MS Office, internet & networking, and abbreviations.

Topics Covered in Quantitative Aptitude

Quadratic equations, number series, and data interpretation include bar graph, pie chart, tabular & line chart, simplification, approximation, simple & compound interest, percentages, profit & loss, probability, data sufficiency, permutation-combination, mensuration, ratio and proportion.

It also considers problems on ages, speed, work, time & wages, distance & time, pipes & cisterns, and boats & streams.

Please note, there is no provision for any interview in IPB clerk exams.
